Marlie uses oil pastels to create dreamy works through blending and smudging using her fingers. They then go over the oil with a colored pencil to fine tune some details and add highlights. In some pieces, they scratch the oil to add texture to the subject.

Each piece takes several hours to days from start to finish depending on the subject matter. However, when they are finally complete, Marlie seals them with a hardener to prevent the oil from smudging and moving around.
